The village of Shipkovo has existed ever since 1630.  According to historians, the village got its name given by its first dwellers. The legend has it that the whole village used to be surrounded by brier bushes (in BG “shipka”). But the village is most famous for its healing mineral springs.

People from all over the country come to the Shipkovo Spa Resort to have various diseases healed – stomach diseases, lung diseases, neurological and ophthalmologic diseases. The spot also offers opportunities for mountain walks in the unique nature of the Stara Planina Mountain.
